Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is an infection of a nerve and the skin around it caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is also the cause of chickenpox. It's quite common with approximately one in every four people having at least one episode of shingles during their life. It can also affect your ability to travel and so can be covered as a medical condition. Add medical cover to your policy and declare any and all pre-existing medical conditions on our system, including shingles, it's easy to do, all you need to do is search for and add each condition, answer the related questions and we will then be able to provide a selection of travel insurance quotes specific to your requirements. If you or your child has shingles please check with your airline before travelling on a plane as many do not allow people with shingles to fly. Remember also that when travelling in Europe, it is important to make sure that you also have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
With a travel insurance policy that covers shingles, if there are any complications while you are on holiday you will have access to a 24 hour emergency medical assistance or help line, with operators fluent in many languages who can speak to medical staff for you. The medical expenses section of a policy also commonly covers additional expenses such as ambulance and hospital admission costs, and repatriation to the UK. Perhaps the most important aspect for those with shingles is that you will also get cover for cancellation meaning that if you were deemed unable to travel before your holiday, for reasons relating to your shingles or any other declared pre-existing condition, you would be entitled to make a claim.
We have a simple screening process makes it easy to compare travel insurance policies that can cover shingles along with any other medical conditions you may have. When applying for a quote we ask some questions about your trip that will include questions about your medical health. After that you will be able to add conditions, each condition has some of it's own questions to answer such as any related conditions you may have, whether it has interfered with your activities or daily living, and about any treatments or surgeries you have had or are currently undertaking. With these answers we will be able to assess your current health situation, and should be able to provide you with travel insurance quotes that have the cover that you want and need.
