Stag and Hen Parties Abroad

Stag and hen parties abroad

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) estimate that over a million people from the UK are planning to travel abroad for stag and hen parties this year, with many of them travelling without any travel insurance.* Going on holiday without travel insurance means running the risk of being out of pocket if you have an accident, get arrested, or lose your possessions.

Take out travel insurance

Stag and hen do incidents from those surveyed by the FCDO included being arrested in Poland for being chained to a police car wearing a mankini; losing a passport in Amsterdam after being thrown into a canal; and falling off of a hotel balcony and having to stay in intensive care for four weeks.* Without travel insurance, these incidents could be very costly.

Research your destination

Be aware of local laws and customs; antics that are acceptable for stags and hens in the UK might be offensive elsewhere.

Look after your passport

Keep it in a safe if available, and make sure you look after it. If it is lost or stolen, your travel insurance should protect you in the event of you needing replacement documents. Check before you travel that your passport is valid – many countries require that your passport is valid for six months after your travel dates.

Take an EHIC

If you’re travelling in Europe, the EHIC entitles you to reduced-cost or free emergency medical care. Please be aware that it doesn’t replace the need for travel insurance, as it doesn’t cover you for private care or repatriation to the UK.
